Surah Al Hashr Ayat 7 Translation Tafseer

Para 28 - قَدْ سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ

سورة الحشر

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

59.7

مَاۤ اَفَآءَ اللّٰهُ عَلٰى رَسُوْلِهٖ مِنْ اَهْلِ الْقُرٰى فَلِلّٰهِ وَ لِلرَّسُوْلِ وَ لِذِی الْقُرْبٰى وَ الْیَتٰمٰى وَ الْمَسٰكِیْنِ وَ ابْنِ السَّبِیْلِۙ- كَیْ لَا یَكُوْنَ دُوْلَةًۢ بَیْنَ الْاَغْنِیَآءِ مِنْكُمْؕ-وَ مَاۤ اٰتٰىكُمُ الرَّسُوْلُ فَخُذُوْهُۚ-وَ مَا نَهٰىكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوْاۚ-وَ اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَؕ-اِنَّ اللّٰهَ شَدِیْدُ الْعِقَابِﭥ(7)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

Whatever ˹spoils˺ Allah has given His Messenger from the people of the towns; [1] so it is for Allah, His Messenger, close relatives, orphans, the destitute, and the travellers, so that wealth does not ˹only˺ circulate between the rich among you. [2] Whatever the Messenger grants you, take it, and whatever he forbids, refrain from it, [3] and fear Allah—Allah is truly severe in retribution.

Commentary

According to some commentators of the Quran, this is clarification regarding the ruling on the spoils attained from Banū Naḍīr. According to other commentators, this ruling is regarding the spoils of the city that Muslims attain using their strength. Here, the ruling mentioned is regarding where a fifth of such wealth is to be distributed.

During the Age of Ignorance, leaders would take a quarter of the spoils and leave the rest for others. This would lead to the rich taking a large amount, leaving an exceedingly small amount for the poor. People requested for the spoils to be distributed in this manner, but Allah Almighty taught the Noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم a fairer method for doing so.

One meaning of this is to take whatever the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم grants from the spoils, because it is permissible. And whatever he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم forbids, refrain from it and do not request for it. A second meaning is to obey whatever the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم commands and to refrain from whatever he forbids.
